This episode of The Boob Business Podcast is extra special because I decided to flip the script a little. Instead of interviewing someone else or going solo on the mic, I invited my own editor, Jessica Noel to interview me. Yep — I’m in the guest seat this time… because I’ve got some BIG news:
I wrote a book! π
It’s called Milk’D: Finding Your Flow in the First Week of Breastfeeding, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
In this episode, I open up about why I wrote it, what makes it different from all the other breastfeeding books out there, and how I hope it changes the game for both families and providers. Whether you're a new parent or a fellow birth worker, I promise—this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.
Over the years, I kept hearing the same thing from my clients:
“I wish someone had told me that.”
And they weren’t talking about super advanced, technical stuff—these were basic, essential things that so many families just never get told.
Like how babies born at 37 weeks might struggle to breastfeed effectively (even though they’re considered “full term”), or how jaundice doesn’t mean you did anything wrong.
These moments of confusion and frustration were happening way too often, and I knew something needed to change.
So I wrote Milk’D to fill in those critical gaps—with honesty, clarity, and a whole lot of compassion.
I’m not just coming at this as a clinician—I’m also a mom. And that lived experience shaped every page.
I wanted this book to feel like you’re sitting with a mom-friend who gets it… but one who also happens to be a nurse and an IBCLC.
So Milk’D isn’t just another how-to guide. It’s emotionally validating, evidence-based, and grounded in years of working hands-on with thousands of families.
Yes, there are a lot of breastfeeding books out there—but here’s what makes Milk’D different:
β¨ It’s built for real life—not just textbook scenarios.
β¨ It zooms in on the first week, when things are raw, emotional, and high-stakes.
β¨ It’s warm, non-judgy, and encouraging—no shame, just real talk.
β¨ And it’s designed to grow—with plans for Spanish and audio versions soon, because every parent deserves accessible lactation care.
Let’s be real—breastfeeding is not as easy as Instagram makes it look.
In this episode, I talk about the disconnect between the polished version of breastfeeding we see online and the messy, emotional, overwhelming reality of those early days.
I share stories from my practice that highlight how much pressure families are under and how quickly guilt creeps in when things don’t go “perfectly.”
And Milk’D is there—to close that gap with truth, empathy, and humor.
Writing this book is just the beginning.
Here’s where I hope to take it:
πΈ A Spanish translation—to support families who are often left out of the conversation
πΈ An audio version—for all the parents with no free hands (I see you!)
πΈ A trusted tool for doulas, dentists, midwives, and more—to help bridge the education gap in lactation care
At the end of the day, Milk’D is more than a book—it’s part of a movement. One that makes space for better informed, more supported feeding journeys for every family.
